Sunrise Valley Celebrates Veterans Day with Inspiring Assembly
Sunrise Valley Elementary School hosted a heartfelt Veterans Day assembly, bringing together students, families, and distinguished guests to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans and active-duty military members. The program showcased the hard work and talents of our 5th and 6th grade chorus, led by Ms. Smith and Dr. Kancianic, who performed moving patriotic songs. The South Lakes High School JROTC Color Guard opened the ceremony with a formal presentation of the flags, setting a tone of respect and reverence. With upwards of 50 honored guests in attendance, our community joined in collective gratitude for their service.
One of the program's highlights was a keynote address by Colonel Brian Dryzga, USMC, Retired, who shared an inspiring message about dedication and responsibility. He was introduced by his three children, Chase, Conner, and Mary, adding a personal and meaningful connection to the moment. Selected students read their heartfelt letters to veterans, written during class. Their words captured the deep respect and admiration our students hold for those who serve, reminding us all of the impact of appreciation and reflection. The program closed with a full-school sing-along and a reception for our guests.
This assembly was a powerful example of our community's commitment to recognizing the contributions of our veterans and their families. Special guest Douglas Tyson, FCPS Assistant Superintendent of Region 1, joined us in celebrating this occasion. Through music, words, and shared experiences, the event emphasized the importance of unity and gratitude.
