On Friday evening, the Sunrise Valley Elementary PTA sponsored the Annual Spelling Bee. Each student who participated in the event showcased incredible skills in bravery, enthusiasm, resilience, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the event. The competition featured an impressive 16 rounds of spelling, with the finalists tackling challenging 8th-grade words. The word that secured the win was "lyricist" in its singular form.

Krish Sandhir secured first place, followed by Sara Suleymanli as the runner-up. Claire Trombley and Hanna Wilczewski tied for second place. Krish will move on to compete in the Fairfax County Spelling Bee on Sunday, March 17 at lake Braddock secondary school where he will represent Sunrise Valley along with roughly 85 students from other elementary and middle schools in Fairfax County Public Schools.

Special thanks to our wonderful volunteers, especially Stephanie Kater, for coordinating and running another successful SVES spelling bee.
